As Michiganders, we know the Great Lakes are simply part of our DNA. From Belle Isle to Traverse City to Marquette, Michigan families, schools and small businesses depend on the health of the Great Lakes every day. That’s why last week I led a bipartisan effort to secure $310 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) for Fiscal Year 2020—a $9 million increase for this critical program. I’m proud the Senate passed this measure. Over the past several years, every dollar spent on this program has produced three times the economic return to the region. This additional funding will go towards restoring habitats, combating invasive species and addressing pollution—benefiting both our environment and economy. Every Michigander knows the importance of our Great Lakes, and now with this bipartisan funding increase, we can help ensure they remain strong and vibrant for generations to come.See more about my bipartisan effort from Fox 17 in Grand Rapids.
